In the absence of the Secretary at War who is now at New York I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter dated the 16 instant with the inclosure and to transmit you recently a duplicate of my communications to you of the same date.
Capt Bishman of the 2d Regt is ordered into about 80 Men will leave this City to morrow morning for Fort Pitt.
Captain Price was to instruct yesterday at Middletown in Connecticut for New Brunswick with a commission, commission to recruit for the 2d Regt of Infantry — as soon as the Company arrives at New Brunswick it will immediately be march forward to Fort Pitt.
We have received the pleasing news to General Scott's expedition and the President of the United States has directed them to be published.
