As I have a considerable sum in Gold sent me to Pay the Troops — I am under the Necessity of applying for a Pair of Scales and weights to enable me to pay it out by the Pennsy weight as Troveweist — I will thank you to get me a pair that I can depend on, and of as portable a size as possible to be accurate — together with a double supply of weights, as I shall be as — posed and may possible break a single set, by loosing part of it —
Get me also a general Table of the weights and value of all current Gold — and send them to me by the Post —
General Knox will frank the package — if not I will pay the sum agreed for by you for its Postage —
No time must be lost as I have shortly to descend the River, and shall immediately after my arrival at Head Quarters, be called on to pay the Troops — Beatty, and Doyle have arrived, I have spoken to the last relative to his receipts and he promises to call and sign them — Beatty says — he is in the same predicament — if so send his in also — I am
