I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the fourteenth instant and to inclose a duplicate or more on the same day.
I have also received a letter from Major General St Clair of the thirteenth of June at which time no troops had arrived. But on the fourteenth and fifteenth Major Doughson with Kirkwood and Armstrongs Companies and also a recruit from North Carolina is arrived.
It would be great satisfaction to learn of the attainments deserving the river under Major Littles on the thirteenth instant.
I most sincerely lament that all the troops be maturely enlisted and embodied to afford America with all possible dispatch.
Captain Beatty will have reached you by this time. Captain Pierce with about two hundred and forty regulars and cannon will leave Carlisle tomorrow.
Captain Newman with about twenty regulars and work their way into on or about the twenty ninth and about one hundred more will arrive at Brunswick in a few days, But I do not estimate that there will arrive in time for the expedition.
