Hodgdon / July 5^th 1791 / Respecting Advances to [undecipherable]] M^r William Knox Depty North [undecipherable] Forces Philadelphia By George Minear [undecipherable] [undecipherable] N° Pittsburg 5^th July 1791 Sir The bearer George Minear is the waggoner that attended Cap^t Hall's company from Jersey - Michael Steven who engaged him got fifty dollars in advance, and gave him about twenty dollars to take him on assuring him that he would overtake him and pay him more - but he never saw no more of him - The consequence was that he received of M'Collins commissary in Reading twelve dollars - and from Major Smith commissary in Carlisle sixteen dollars - he has now received thirty six dollars of one all together making sixty four dollars which when you must stop in your hands when you settle with Steven as they are charged to me - the remaining balance you will pay him - your Most Obedt servant Samuel [undecipherable] Hodgdon [undecipherable] W^m William Knox —
