June 30. 1791 Sir The Sec^y of War having determined to raise a Battalion of levies on the Frontier, he has directed me to transmit you the Money for the purpose, which he informs is to be subject to the order of General Butler — you will now receive the Sum of Two Thousand two hundred & twenty four dollars & Cents. in Post Notes, agreeably to the enclosed Schedule, and also an Estimate for one Months pay and the bounty of three dollars to each Non Commission^d Officer & private of the Battalion so to be raised — the letter will govern you in the distribution of the Money — I have taken the liberty to trouble you with a letter for Lieut John Jeffers, also with three Post Notes amounting to 137 dollars drawn in his favor, which you will please to [undecipherable] present him if at Fort Pitt and take duplicate Receipts, but if M^r Jeffers should be at his post, please to forward the Letter & Notes to him — I avile thank you for duplicate Receipts for the Money now sent — pray inform me whether Post or Bank Notes answer the purposes of the army best — I am & Sam^d Hodgdon [undecipherable: J.
