June 20. 1794
War department.
Sir,
On the 22 April I wrote you to embark a number of your Recruits and to proceed with them to New Brunswick, and from thence to commence your march for Pittsburg. This letter was received by you the 29 of that month.
Sixty six days elapsed between the receipt of that letter, and your arrival at Reading.
I have no doubt but a number of circumstances may have retarded in some degree your march, but has that industry and diligence been used which are incumbent on every Officer, it is highly probable you might have been more considerably advanced on your Route
The public service requires your Recruits at Pittsburg I therefore request that no further delay be made, but that you exert yourself to reach that post with all possible dispatch consistently with the health of your Men.
You will take on with you all the Recruits at Carlisle that are fit to march —
[Sam]
Sir
Your humble Servant
