By direction of the Secretary of War I have delivered Captain
Edwinus Beatty Nine three and dollars 950 cents in Gold & the further Sum of
Eight thousand eight hundred & forty four doll.s in Post Notes, at 30 days — making
together the Sum of 17842. Dollars & 50 Cents — which money Capt Beatty is directed
to put into your hands, to be appropriated agreeable to the enclosed estimates by
Warrants from the Commanding General; unless he may find it expedient and
necessary to call it forth for more important Purposes, however of this I expect
the Secretary of War will particularly advise him & you. — The General,
having particular confidence in you this been induced to put this charge on you.
Captain Beatty has direction to procure at this Post the
best for the Post Notes, if practicable — you will please to give him
triplicate Receipts for the money, that he may transmit them to me,
he having Receipted for the same on Warrants from the Secretary of War.
