[Docket: Letter from S. Hodgdon / to M[undecipherable] / June 17. 1791]
Philad.y 17 June 1791
Sir,
In my letter of yesterday, I [strikethrough: told] I requested you to forward several articles still wanting here — in addition I have now to request that you will apply to W. Simmons or some other person, to know what quantity of linen or other more suitable linen will be sufficient to mount three hundred more packs, saddles, and having ascertained the quantity estimate it with the other things and apply to the Secretary at War, for the means of obtaining the whole, and forward them to me immediately. — One hundred and fifty weight of White rope, if possible wanting it cannot be had here, under One shilling per pound, if it can be had at all — the whole should be of a small size — about half of it of a loose texture to fasten the Packs, saddles and their loads on the Horses — this may come with the Knapsacks and sundry other things I wish General Knox to inform me is coming on — thus much for Public business
On reflection I am ready to think some mistake, [undecipherable: probable reading "must"] have happened in the statement of my account at the Bank — I must have at least [undecipherable] thousand dollars due there on a private account, and that amount I meant to leave there — [it] is Drawn out for the public, my estimate will [undecipherable], and it must be replaced immediately — if that is not done I will replace it from the Money I have in my hands —
At any rate you will be strong for all my purposes — [undecipherable] you receive the amount due from [undecipherable] W. McT[undecipherable] and others, [undecipherable] keep me constantly advised —
My waggon is not yet arrived — Exceedingly want some of the papers in it — I hope it will be here in two or three Days — forward every thing that is to come on with the expedition.
With [undecipherable] of esteem
Yors
Your Most Obdt Humble Servant
