The 5th Instant, and immediately on the departure of Colonel Butler from this place, I had the honor to address a few lines to you, which I put into the hands of Captain William Kent an Indian, to be forwarded, but I presume that the same has miscarried by some neglect.
The purport of it was, to be permitted to have a free range in any, used the Lake Erie, for stragling & some Indians, and to there, that those persons who bear the mischievous & mur‐ ture of the West, best of the lake —
Sir William Butler am charged with is from the Receiver of War for the United States, and is related to the Indians, now unhappily at war with the Army of the States, with desires to reclaim them to a Peaceable demeanour, before Britain violation inestable, which to their Dominion over them — to effect this, the right of the Iroquois, Loyal British Indians have sent their Treaties, but to secure an audience and beard the desires
