Sec of War I. concern g.arms & ammunition furnished Col. Shepherd Done June 7,1791 May 6th (Copy) Ohio County 6th, 1791 Sir, Agreeable to the orders to me directed I have ordered out the militia agreeable to the enclosed returns - but since that we find that the number is not sufficient to the present emergency. Within a few days past the Indians hath made a general attack on us, and killed several of our Scouts. Ensign Enix was killed, Ensign Biggs wounded, and several privates- they have made several attempts on Block Haufes but have fail’d-they have killed several of the Inhabitants,their number not yet known- we have alarms every day- the Bearer Capt. Kirkwood will be able to give you a perfect account, as he was in one of the actions, to whom I refer in you for the true state of affairs- we are without ammunition and but few arms.
