I have stated the enclosed account for the expenses made by Capt J. Jones which is also enclosed but Sir I am not in possession of particular evidence of that Captain Jones was considered as a [undecipherable: retiring] from service on the 1 January 1781 at a time the Regiments were annihilated that [undecipherable: period] — but the [undecipherable] of the two officers are [undecipherable] to the Officers who [undecipherable] — the State of Virginia is [undecipherable] Capt Jones for his [undecipherable] allow to the 1 Jan'y 1791 which is the only evidence that he was in service to that period — previous to [undecipherable: procuring] a [undecipherable: Certificate] I conceive it is necessary some other evidence should be obtained which I believe may be had of Major Nathaniel [undecipherable: Stitchee] who commanded the Regiment previous to its [undecipherable] this Gentleman now resides in the State of Delaware & [undecipherable] a Prothonotary for the County of [undecipherable: Sussex] — if you will please to mention this Circumstance to Mr. Beckley who is authorised to transact this business as it did not occur to me when he called this morning.
