[Private] Providence 25^th April 1791. Dear Sir, Agreeable to promise I have the Satisfaction to acquaint you by Col^o Dexter that in consulting with the ole Selectmen Affairs I find that Jeremiah Olney Greenman is desirous again of obtaining a Military life — he was a Lieutenant of Excellent Character in my Regt. and since the war he has been married, with Reputation, Several Officiates from this Post. I therefore with peculiar pleasure recommend him as a Suitable person to be appointed to the Command of the Company to be raised in this State, and this I do with the more Confidence as I have had a long experience of his Military Talents, and the particular knowledge I have of his promising Abilities and abilities, give me every reason to believe he will do honor to the Appointment, should he be so fortunate as to obtain it. I cannot refusal permit me this, to request your powerful Interest in his favour. — This Gentleman is recommended by one more here, but to the Secretary of the Treasury on the last made of the further building in Connecticutt, but the appointment not being made with a Military life being more Agreable to his wishes. I have thought proper to name him to you — and shall acquaint the Secretary of the the Treasury [strikethrough: by] with the Circumstances, by this opportunity and if he wishes the last made of the Latter to be from this State I know Several new Officers of Reputation [strikethrough: who] that think Ready to accept the appointment — The Cloathing for the Troops mentioned in your last letter, has come to hand in good order.
