In order that your Excellency may be informed of the measures which have resulted from the deliberations of Congress upon the subject of the frontiers I have the honor to transmit a copy of the Act intitled “An Act for
“raising, and adding another regiment to the
“military establishment of the United States
“and for making further provision for the pro-
“tection of the frontiers”
And, I beg leave to request that as this Act has not been published through the proper channels that your Excellency will not, for the present, suffer it to go out of your possession.
The arrangements which the government
Government are making in consequence of the said Act are not yet entirely finished. But, I beg leave to inform your Excellency, in confidence , that the President of the United States has, as a prelude to the operations of the campaign, authorized an expedition against the Wabash indians. The troops to be raised in Kentuckey, to consist of mounted volunteers, not exceeding seven hundred and fifty, and to be commanded by brigadier general Charles Scott, and that the honorable John Brown has set out from this city by the way of Fort Pitt, charged with the arrangements upon this subject.
