[26/4500h 2250] [undecipherable: all Nashville?] 23 Sep^tr 1790 Sep: 23 — 1790 D^r Sir Several Companies have arrived here april last at Nashville from the Natchez; — Day one of the Travelers we were informed that [undecipherable] had wrote to a Gentleman living within the Jurisdiction of the Natchez under the Spanish Government, a letter directed to him on the eastern side of the Mississippi; intimating that he understood that a parcel of [undecipherable] Banditti has fixed themselves within the limits of the United States on the Mississippi protending to be under Spanish Government; that he was [sure?] that the Court would give Sanction to Incroachmets of that Nature; at that the Company who had purchased lands at the Mouth of the Yasoue [undecipherable] from the State of Georgia, was about sinding out a Colony to settle there & Drive away those [undecipherable] on this letter we are told was forwarded from [undecipherable] to Doc^r Fallon from the Ohio, who is also a party interested in the Georgia [Purchase?] & is [undecipherable] in Building Boats to move down the Mississippi. That a number of Men he has with him I am not informed of nor of the place on the Ohio where he is or was constructing his Boats — That Gentleman did reside for several Years at New Orleans, as is well known both in [undecipherable] & [undecipherable] — [undecipherable] Letters of [undecipherable] Georgia received by several of the Inhabitants of Cumberland mention the Preparations making there & in South Carolina for [undecipherable] out to the Mississippi immediately a Number of [undecipherable] in [undecipherable] of the aforesaid Company — We have had last [Summer?] at Nashville a Capt [undecipherable] who said he was an agent of the [said?] Company, and that a very Capital Store would be at the Mouth of the Yasoue very Shortly — last Month on my Way here travelling thro Prince Edward County in Virginia, some of the [undecipherable] people told me that a Gentleman from that County had been out to the Chickesaw Indians from the Virginia Company of Georgia [Purchase?], to treat with them respecting the [sitting?] of their land — All I can say is that the People of Cumberland do not wish that any settlement should be carried on in that part of the Country, which would give any [undecipherable] to those [undecipherable] Indians; or a [undecipherable] with them would be attended with the most Fatal Consequences for our frontiers — You have seen Sir, all the Informations I am now able to give you, as I have the honor to be Sir, Y^r most ob^t & most humble [servant] [Signature: undecipherable]
