I address you in the name & by the authority of the United States of America, in pursuance of the orders of their great [strikethrough: Chieftain], General Wash- ington. Brothers The killing of two men of your [strikethrough: nation] at Pine Creek has kindled the resentment not only of the [strikethrough: State of] Pennsylvania, but of [strikethrough: all] the United States; & diligent [strikethrough: and unwearied] endeavours are used for taking the murderers, that they may [strikethrough: suffer] the punishment due to their [strikethrough: foul] crime. [strikethrough: It] [strikethrough: is our Great Chief who] abhors such wicked men; and is determined that no injury done to our brothers of the Indian nations [strikethrough: & peace with the United States] shall go uncompensed, if the offenders can [strikethrough: possibly] be taken [strikethrough: found]. Our Great Chief is renowned thro' the world for [his] justice and goodness; and your Brothers [strikethrough: and all] the Indian Nations may perfectly rely upon his [undecipherable].
