Sir
In order that you may be perfectly acquainted with the circumstances of the Scouts and rangers which have at different periods been permitted to be called out for the internal defence of the Counties lying along the Ohio, I herein enclose you copies of my letters to the several County Lieutenants, and, for tunes of Kentucky upon that subject
I request that you would be pleased to communicate your ideas from time to time of the use & abuses that may be made of the said permission
I also request that you would be pleased to communicate to me all the circumstances of the proposed expedition such as the time of the departure of the troops — their route and progress, and the events of the expedition — Such circumstances as should be important to be immediately known you will forward by express
