President Washington's guidance for dictating peace with Indians on Ouabache [Wabash] River
Document 1790President Washington has said that peace with the Indians on the Ouabache can only begin with a cessation of hostilities. If hostilities continue, Butler is authorized to call on the Lieutenants of the counties of Virginia and Pennsylvania for detachments of militia. Commanding officer of troops General Harmar, and St. Clair have a plan for offensive operations. Calls upon Butler for sixty men to be properly officered; to be at the mouth of McMahon's Creek, near Wheeling. Militia must be punctual.
