Sir
Your favr of 24th Ult. on the Subject of the Public Stores in this State was Recd. on the 5th Inst. to which I now attend (being the first moments Leisure I have had from my office the duties of which press hard upon me at first setting out) & I find Sir it is impossible for me to make a Very accurate Estimate of the weight of the Tubler Stores - as they consist of such a Variety of articles all differing in weight. However I am of opinion, ^from the best Computation I am able make ^ that the Public Stores in this State will not Differ much from one hundred & Thirty Tons, - The Expence of Removing them from their Respective Deposits in the States ^to the Vessel^ (Vizt. Providence - Cranston - Liverton - Bristol - Warren - East Greenwich South Kingston & Newport) will from the Nearest best Computation I can make amount to about one Dollar and a Quarter per Ton ^on an average^ and the Transportation to the Landing at West Point I find cannot be done for much less than Two Dollars p. Ton as the Packet men & Persons owning small Vessels all ask Two Dollars., but if one person should be agreed with to take the Whole it might perhaps be done ^for^ 1 3/4 Dollars P. Ton -
I have the honor to be with Esteem Sir your Obed. Huml. Servt.
Jereh. Olney
Honble the Secretary at War
130 Tons Removed to the landing at 1 1/4 Dolls. is 162 1/2
130 Tons Transported to West Point 2 Dolls 260
[Total] 422.1/2
