Instructions to [undecipherable: Ensign] Melton or the Officer who shall be ordered to go down the Tennessee to meet the Cherokees at the Mouth of the Tennessee — The Cherokees have been directed to be at the mouth of the Tennessee on the 1^st of July, so much Time is already elapsed, that the greatest Exertions must be made to meet them as soon as possible — I have promised a rifle to Chestanastee a Cherokee Chief, Replace Bonnington to furnish the said Rifle — if the said Rifle is promised to any Troops at the post with my message to the Cherokee Nation — if he comes & demands it, or any other in his [undecipherable: stead] one of the old ones — The other two old Rifles I wish to be given to the two Cherokees who come up with me & whom you will find at the falls, they will not come with you & will be very favourable to you — Deliver the enclosed message to the Cherokees to go to their Nation — If you meet any Choctaws tell them as I did not hear from them, I have no Arrangements for them, but that I will write them by the first safe Opportunity — The Powder & Lead which I [undecipherable: leave] at the of losses, perhaps an [undecipherable: blanket], you may give them part — Col^o Wilkins will [undecipherable] you fifty Blankets — I promised Piamingo & Chestanastee & the Party with him and his break or be eleven Blankets to [undecipherable] payment for a Canoe two of my [undecipherable: own for] [undecipherable] Men, be fair & divide them & tell them what it is for, the other Blankets which you will have on hand Do not go to the People you meet at the Rock Chicasaw or Choctaw — Be so good as to make out a Report of your transactions, that I may be able to close my Agency on this Business 29^th June 1790.
