[Portland, June 26^th Samuel Winslow Wants employment under the Federal Government —] Portland June 26^th 1790 My dear Sir The late Deliberations of Congress induce me to suppose that the Revenue of the United States will be augmented by an Excise being laid upon sundry Articles which will of course make an additional Number of Officers requisite for the Collection of the same. — My earnest desire of Employment under the Federal Government, and your repeated kind Expressions for my Welfare, will apologize for the Renewal of my Requests that You will please to make Such application for my benefit, as may appear to You consistent. — I hope I may not be mistaken in my anticipation of the proceedings of Congress. — The President hath already rec'd Testimonials of my Character from the principal Gentlemen of This Place, in my former unfortunate application. You will be pleased to advise me, if You think it necessary that I should again write to Them.
