[BOSTON JUNE 20] FREE
General Henry Knox
Secretary at War
fro[m] New York
[docket, inverted: 26 June 1790 / [undecipherable]]
my dear Harry
[Jackson]
Boston June 20. 1790
I arrived here last [undecipherable]
after a pleasant & [undecipherable] journey, Mr [Otis?]
& Mr Dana came on with me & [it] made
[it] very agreeable and took [from] in a great
measure the roughness of the road — I
found my good Mother & all my friends in
health, and the Old Lady welcomed me [back]
with a tear ——
It was with reluctance I left
your house in the morning of my departure
without knowing the situation of Mrs Knox's
health, but I pleased myself that it was
only an accident that caused her being
unwell in the evening & I flatter myself
it will prove so when I hear from you —
from inquiry I find there will
be great & violent opposition made to
Mr Dalton's Election. they have no particular objection to him, but they
say it is best to change. they have the
power & will exercise it — he is on
the nomination with Dr [Jarvis], Mr
[Gordon?] & Mr [George] [Cabot?] it is said &
the last mentioned will accept, he will
be the man — as they have [undecipherable]
in view it will give Mr D. a little [chance?]
and I hope he will be [re]elected.
By Capt [Thayer?] yesterday in
36 days from London we have accounts
of a Spanish War with England. he
informs there was a very hot press in
England & any British Seaman was
[put on board the] Men of War —
my head aches & my hand [shakes] so
much that it is with difficulty I hold
my pen — my love to Mrs Knox and [kiss]
the Children. —
Your [Obediently?]
[undecipherable: H. Sullivan?]
[Lt. Knox —]
