War Office June 8^th 1790 Sir, I take the liberty to enclose to the care of your Excellency, a letter to Lieutenant John Steel, and also one to Ensign Thomson Seayres, informing them of their appointments in the Battation of Infantry to be raised in pursuance of the act of Congress of the 30th of April last. I understand that Lieut Steel resides in Augusta County, and M^r Seayres in the neighborhood of Richmond in Virginia — But being informed that there are no regular post roads through the part of the country they reside in — and presuming that your Excellency is acquainted with the most expeditious mode of Communicating this intelligence to them — I have left blanks for the residence of the gentle-men, and request you will be pleased to fill them, and forward the letters as soon as may suit your convenience.
