By direction of the Honorable The Secretary [strikethrough: for] the War department I inclose the first of exchange, [strikethrough: dated this day] drawn on you on Samuel Meredith Treasurer of the United States in my favor at sight [strikethrough: dated this day] for Five hundred & Sixty one dollars and twenty four cents, which you will please to pay to the order of Michael Rudolph Esq.r appointed a Captain under the act of Congress of the 30 April last to raise a Company of Men in Georgia in addition to those now in service; Under the [underline: Proviso] that Cap.t Rudolph accepts the said appointment but in case he declines you will then pay [strikethrough: the same to the order of] it Thomas Martin under the afores. [strikethrough: the next senior officer who may] [strikethrough: accept his appointment,] taking triplicate receipts agreeably to the inclosed form which you will please to forward to me by different conveyances,
If it should so happen that neither of those officers should accept their appointments you will please to hold the Bill subject to my order & give me the earliest information—
The Officers appointed in the State of Georgia under the aforementioned act, are, Captain Michael Rudolph, Lieut Thomas Martin & Ensign James Clay * The Secretary at war &c
