I have received a letter from Susanna Barrit Wife of Edmund Britt and invalid Pensioner residing in the Town of Boston inclosing a petition to the President of the United States Setting forth, that her husband having removed away for the benefit of his health, Left with her a power of attorney to receive his pension, but that this power being stolen out of her desk with sundry other papers, she could not produce the necessary voucher to receive the said pension, whereupon an application made to you [strikethrough: and that] the payment was refused.
I have not thought it necessary to trouble the President with [strikethrough: it] — as she mentions in her letter that she is able to prove the facts to your Satisfaction by creditable persons and names the
Mr Timo Mr Clark and Mrs Joseph Barrell.
I please to observe that in case such evidence can be produced to you as in the opinion of the attorney of the district certified to you in writing are Sufficient to prove the fact, that the same will be a proper voucher at the Treasury
