Sir I had the honour of receiving your letter of the 15^th Altho it may be deemed unpardonable in me, to call your attention from matters of moment to my request - yet the anxiety with which I wish to be ranked under the present establishment, must plead my excuse - General Knox will greatly increase the obligation I am already under to him by informing me as early as he can make it convenient in which of the States the troops will be raised, and whether, should not Pennsylvania be called upon to furnish a quota, officers will be chosen from any State but that in which the men are recruited - I have the honour to be, - with the greatest respect Sir - your most ob^t H[um]ble Serv^t Jn^o Wade [He wishes to know if any Officers will be chosen from States in which the troops are not raised — He rec the letter from the War Office of the 15^th ins^t.]
