Boston May 16. 17[undecipherable] My Dear Harry Your favor of the 8. came to hand by the post last [even]ing — altho you did not receive your appointment as a delegate from this State, yet I hope you consider yourself as representing Ma[ss.] from what I had written you on the subject — It will be a happy circumstance indeed if the proposition is taken up this [Session?] and adopted — as I assure you the people in this quarter are very much dissatisfied in its present [situ]ation — I know the Military Establishment, it is different from what I expected, and I am clear in the opinion that the people of this Country will not inlist upon the terms proposed, as [in] case your Soldiers will consist of a few Vagabonds & Rascels and the very dregs of [the —] how far this may be good [Pl]any time will determine — Cap^t. [S.] Freeman will write you this day on the Subject of Inspection — I think him well qualified & you know his merits — I w[ish] something may be done for him. [His] [Holday?] they are extremely dissatisfied — I mentioned to you the price of State notes, but you have not [said] any thing on the Subject — they can be purchased under 6/— Contents 7/6 to 8/– Indents 6/— It is determined that M^rs. [Swan] [should] go to her husband in Paris — and [she has taken] passage in Cap^t. Scott for that purpose, She is to [be] landed at Dover & [take] one of the Packets for Calais, where She will expect to meet M^r. J— this business is a secret and we wish to be kept so — Scott proposes Sailing this day week, but I believe he will not be ready until the middle of it — For fear that any accident may have happened to M^r. J— it is the desire [of M^rs. Swan] that you would furnish her with Some Letters of introduction when She arrives in that Country, a Letter or two to Some [friends] at Calais I think will be necessary in case M^r.
