Ohio County May the 10th 1790 Sir I received your Orders of the 13th of April on the first Day of May and Laid the same Before the officers of the County and they ware of opinion that the extent of our county would receive Eight Spies which was appointed and ordered to spies or scout on the Western Side of the Ohio River so as best to cover the inhabitants of this County as well as the [non setlers?] on the Western Side of the Ohio. Before your orders came to hand there was several spies sent out at the Expense of the people on their own request for pay from the government as we never knew anything of the orders sent by Col Duvall. The present behaviour of the Indians to us is very alarming in the space of one month they have kiled two people taken five prisoners burnt ten houses stole a number of horses and kiled Cattle and the Like by 121. by Sundry persons that has lately come up the Ohio River we are informed that the Indians hath taken Nine Boats this Spring Some of which ware Laden with valuable stores the people either kiled or imprisoned. this Sir is our present situation as far as I can collect.
