Pay Office 6 May 1790
[undecipherable] In answer to your letter of the [undecipherable] master General I have to inform to you that his [undecipherable] accounts are closed in the Books of this Office – it appears that the Entries were made from [his?] Accounts [settled?] as in the Auditors Generals office Voucher No 682. and that a balance from a [settlement] of his account
of Fourteen hundred and one dollars & [undecipherable] was due the United States, which sum is expressed in the Entry to have been allowed him by Act of Congress – the date of this Act is not mentioned neither can I find it on the Journals. probably on referring to his Vouchers lodged with the Register it may appear and that this [undecipherable] will include the sum [undecipherable] as [a] debt from the [undecipherable] Estate to the United States
