[Docket: from / Samuel Hodgdon Esqr. / enclosing C. Beatty's receipt / & Lieut Doyle's for Epaulets / Ph. Ap. 1790]
Philadelphia 24th April 1790
Sir
Enclosed you have C Beatty's receipt for two Silver Epaulets received from me and to be accounted for as expres'd. Also Lieut Doyle's receipt for thins alike circumstanced. Through mistake Doyle did not sign a loose receipt, as has been practised, but only a duplicate in my book, answering exactly to the one inclosed.
Lieut Beatty is acquainted with the circumstance, and will readily admit the stoppage, on the presentment of this copy.—
I am Sir,
Your Most Obedient servant
Samuel Hodgdon
Joseph Howell Esq.—
