18th May 1790 Letter from Secy at War respecting Returns of Paymts made to Invalids War Office March 18th: 1790 Sir, There are certain arrearages due a number of Invalids hitherto paid by the State of New York prior to the first of January 1782. as it is necessary that the arrearages due all the Invalids of the United States should be ascertained in order that congress may make some provision for the payment thereof; I have the honor to request your Excellency would be pleased to direct a return to be made to this office of the said arrearages due to the Invalids of this State, prior to the first of January 1782. I have the honor to be Sir Your most obedient humble Servant HKnox Secretary of war His Excellency the Governor of the State of New York
