John Mathews Esq^r Sup^t Savannah Department of War Accountants Office February 16^th 1798 Sir The Treasurer of the United States will transmit you the sum of Two hundred and forty four Dollars being for the Compensation of Indian Store & Company Employees at Savannah from the 1^st September to 31^st December 1797 inclusive; which sum you will please to pay to the said Indian Staff on his application therefor, taking his duplicate Receipts for the same. I am Sir Y^rs William Simmons The Secretary of War Department of War Accountants Office February 16^th 1798 Sir I have the honor of inclosing to you Lt Robert Lees account for his Expenses from North humberland County in the State of Pennsylvania to this City for the purpose of Settling his account as Pay Master to the 4^th Sub Legion and while attending here, and for his expences in returning; this Officer was charged on the Books of this Office with upwards of $3000 Dollars and has fully accounted for the same; he was necessarily employed on the examination the charges does not appear to me to be unreasonable and should they appear to you in the same point of view I will thank you to approve the Same in order that it may form an Item in his account Current now Stating.
