West Point February 3d 1790 Sir/ I have received your letter of 20th Ultimo–and have [undecipherable cross out] tried the tin that is in store which will answer to make the Camp Kettles–and have contracted with Mr. Morrow to make 40 at three shillings cash, which with the 10 that Captain Burbeck has on hand will Complete the the Companies– If you should think proper to have any more Camp Kettles made [undecipherable cross out] at this time they can be done–I mention this, because Mr. Morrow does not make them himself, and perhaps the man that works with for him may be gone when we shall want them another time— I have also got [undecipherable] and Bowles for the hoops–the Muskets I shall have made as soon as possible– The wood that we have on hand (which is 38 cords) will not be sufficient to last the Troops that we have at present to the last of April–which is 1 Officer & 100 men besides the Guard–and Lieut Pierce informs me that he expects one or two officers with 50 or 70 men in a few days from Springfield from what Captain Burbeck has informed him– Their wants 15 Cords to make at for the present Number–if you should think proper to have that, or more purchased, I can get it now while the [slighting?] Lasts I now forward the Return of Ordnance and Quarter Masters stores for the month of January 1790.
