We have the Honor to inform you that we were appointed at the last Session of the Honble General Assembly a Committee for the purpose of Settling the accounts of the Invalids up to the 4th Day of March 1789 and to make a Return of to you of those now paid in this State — we have not been able to Settle the accounts as yet but having compleated the Return we now Inclose it — containing 50 Invalids that have been Inspected and found to be on the army of Congress previous to the 4th Day of March 85 — There are 5 Invalids contained in the list who have Removed from this State but who are still noted in last Return against their Respective names — but the State have continued to pay their pensions notwithstanding — 2 others are since Dead, whose pensions of be require cease, as noted in said Return there are also 6. Invalids who have not yet before the Inspectors Required, to appear in person, & whom we are authorized to call on to Examine and as soon as we are able to Examine their Intentions we will forward you a Return without Delay — Your Letter of Octr Last, to his Excellency the Governor on the Subject of the Invalids, being in his Possession at Newport, we are Consequently unacquainted with the exact time or whether your order was Given to Give the Return & Vouchers however we hope the one Inclosed will answer your purpose — it being Copied from the Several Inspectors Returns and approved by the Genl thereof — we shall begin upon the Invalid accts. next week & as Soon as we are able to Ascertain the Sums advanced by the State and the Ballances that may be due them respectively up to the fourth Day of March 1789 — we shall agreeably to our Instructions lay the said accts before the Legislature at their next meeting, which being approved we will forthwith transmit you a Statement of the whole amount of the Invalid Pensions advanced by this State up to the Said fourth Day of March —
