[Major Lyman 29 Jan^ry 1790] Newport January 29^th 1790 Sir The letter which I have the honor to inclose was forwarded to me by my friend Major [undecipherable], in consequence of my intimating to him my intention of offering myself a Candidate for an appointment in the Revenue Establishment for the Port of Newport in this State; shou'd ascede to the Union.
