Your several favors of the 28th 29th and 31st of December have been received. —
I have not leisure at present, to reply to the letter respecting Captain Vines. I shall only observe that not having stipulated for and Executing a Treaty unnecessary that I shall not allow the Charges for his services, during my having the direction of the business.
I presume that you can personally better settle finally your accounts at the treasury than any other person, and that therefore you had better come on for that purpose, as soon as convenient. The Comptroller is the final Judge of the accounts.
I am disappointed in some Philadelphia Post notes which I expected to have received and enclosed to you this post — But I will remit your draft at sight for One thousand dollars as charged for your pay for the years 1787 and 1788 — The accounts are about making up to the 31 December therefore
