Boston December 29th1789 Sir, I had the honor of receiving by the last post a letter from the Honorable– Mr. Dalton in which he informed me that he had at length obtained some information that may be useful to the poor Soldiers & others who have so often applied to me for relief, and that the Certificates were lodged in your hands and that you would forward them to my care agreeably to the above information I have inclosed a return of the Names of General Hazen’s Regiment–Baldwins Arteficers–Sappers and e Miners and Invalids belonging to this State–and have to request that you would transmit the Certificates for the arrears of pay due to those who have not received them which will be a great gratification to the poor Soldiers, and am happy to find that they will at this time become more beneficial to them–Upon receipt of them I shall immediately advertize in the Papers.–His Honor Mr. Dalton will I dare say be good enough to receipt for them, and shall transmit a receipt to cancel his obligation [undecipherable line appears blacked out] I am [undecipherable], With great Esteem Your Friend & Humle Servant, John Avery
