Sir, I am directed by the President of the United States, to request that your Excellency would be pleased to order an exact list to be made out agreably to the form herein enclosed and transmitted immediately to this office, of all the military Invalids to whom pensions have been granted and paid by the State of Virginia in pursuance of the resolves of the late Congress of the United States. — It is to be observed that no lists of have been received at this office, of the invalids residing in the State of Virginia since the one for the year 1787 —— The list now requested is indispensibly necessary in order to make an arrangement for the payment of the Invalids in march next, agreably to the information published in the news-papers. I have also to request that your Excellency would be pleased to direct a return to be made out of the Officer's widows or orphans (if any) who have received from the State of Virginia the seven years half Pay stipulated by the resolve of Congress of the 24^th of August 1780. — This return to state the rank, and time of the Officers death — the ammount of the annual pension paid to the Widows or orphans, and the years for which it has been paid. — I have the honor to be Your Excellencys Most Obedient Humble Servant, H Knox Secretary at War His Excellency the Governa of the Commonwealth of Virginia
