Wilsonto Govr St Clair On the 19th of September last a partyof indians killed and scalped four persons andcaptivated four, the family of a certainWilliam Johnson, within about nine miles of<br / Clarksburg - on the 22nd the indians killed John monk’s wife and his two childrenand burnt his house, the same eveningburned Jacob Stotzer’s house, the family hardly escaped—-on the 23rdburned Siles Thomp-son’s house, and on 26th, burnt John Simmshouse, and on 28thstole from RandolphCounty, ten or eleven horses—-the number of horses is not yet trulyascertained, but certain five horses taken, cattlesheep & hogs killed—-some part of this mis—-chief done eleven or twelve miles in townsthe interior parts of this county—- Sir beinformed the people of this part of the county are much alarmed and confusedand in my humble opinion if somethingmore than treaties made with part of theindian tribes is not done shortly, it willwithbedifficulty the frontiers of this county canbe kept from evacuating their settlementsthis opinion I have gathered from myhaving taken a tour amongst the peoplewhilst the mischief was going".
