Dear Sir Philadelphia 29 Sept 1789
I have just heard that Mr [undecipherable] is appointed Post Master General — a thought has struck me, which in confidence I impart to — it is, that under a consideration that the [undecipherable] which I occupy is sufficiently commodious to negotiate the business of the Post Office at this, and my [undecipherable] here might not make [me] eligible to apply to the principle for the business in Addition to my present employ — I am certain that I can do the business as well as it has been done, and that with great savings to the Public — but no flesh is privy to my proposal, and I submit it to you whether I ought to move in the affair — if you recommend it, you will assist me, and I shall obtain; in case I do, I shall devote an active Life to the public Service —
With respects and esteem
Saml
