Sir,
The Inclos’d is a Copy of a Receipt given by President Vandyke to the Delaware State for Certificates of Depreciation on Pay due sundry soldiers of her regiment in continental service and which I apprehend have been receiv’d under an Act of the Legislature _ But as the State will not be entitled to a credit in her account current with the United States for the amount of these Certificates unless proof is produced of their subsequent delivery to the Soldiers or their Legal Representatives~ I have to request that you will apply for information upon the subject and transmit to my Office the result of your inquiry - and if any receipts have been taken by President Vandyke that they also be forwarded by the first opportunity of safe conveyance -
I am with respect
