Dear Sir
I had the Honor to Receive your favr of 2d April last in due time— but have omitted a Reply to it, as I had hopes this State would ere this, had the enlightned policy to Adopt the New Constitution— when it was my fixed Intention to make a tour to New York with a hope to have handed the appointment mentioned to you in my Brothers Letter, but being disappointed of seeing an immediate prospect of this State joining the Union— I now Sir with great pleasure acknowledge the friendly Expressions contained in your Letter to promote my Interest, which merits my Sincere and respectful thanks—
This will be handed you by the Bearer Mr Story a Merchant of this Town, a Gentleman of unblemishd Character and a Genuine Federalist, he takes his Lady— (a woman of great merit) with him to New York where he proposes to Spend a few weeks in fitting out his Ship for a Voyage— permits me Sir to Recommend him (as a particular friend of mine) to your friendly aide and acquaintance, any Civilities Shown him while in New York, will lay me under additional and particular obligations—
