[Abraham Ogden] D^r Sir Col. John st. Cummings (who commanded one of the Jersey Regiments during the War) is an Applicant to the President for the Appointment of the Marshal of the District of New Jersey. — Permit me to inform you that he is a very worthy good Character, & perfectly qualified to discharge the Duties of that Office. — Suffer me also to presume to far upon your Friendship as to request your good Offices with the President to procure him an Appointment to the Office. — If this Application is improper by, or at not consonant to the like Requisitions, you will pardon my troubling you. — If it is not incompatible with any Resolutions you may have taken — Then by complying you will you will confer a great Obligation on D^r Sir Your mo^st Ob^t Sv^t Ths.
