Honble Henry Knox Esqr.
Sir
My friend Mr Gerry has informed me that you had recd the appointment to head to the War department & that possibly some place in your gift or under your influence might be vacant where I might receive an appointment — Should that be the case I make now a tender of my services & hope it may be a place that my abilities are equal to & that some decent emoluments will attend it. Should my application be late & your Establishment full I am informed that Mr Osgood will probably be at the Head to the Treasy department. I will esteem it a particular favor for your influence with him or any other head of Depar-ment — with much respect I am Sir your mo. ob. Sert.
