[XXIV-129] Boston Aug 13, 1789 [706] my dear Harry [H-1] I wrote you the 9 Ins^t in answer to yours of the 6^th — however at [(23)] the moment I might have felt need-ly chagrin'd at the disappointment yet I pray you to believe me that I am fully confident you did every thing in your power to affect my wishes, and I shall rest perfectly [satis]fied that at the first opening you will be mindful of me, and bring one into view — I should prefer being in the Revenue than any other line, because I think it more advantageous & that I may fully competent to the business — possibly there may be an opening for Gen. Lincoln to some more im-portant Office, and by that means bring M^r Lovell into his — or M^r Lovell may be removed to some higher or more lucrative [place], in that case it it would open a door for me, which if accomplished, would complete my most sanguine wishes — The appointment of our [friend] General Lincoln has given universal satisfaction, and he has already become a new Man — The appointments he has made, are of the best characters & reputation, and much approbated by the inhabitants — indeed every thing promises in perfect harmony, the general and prevailing [undecipherable] is the [undecipherable: support] of the Federal Revenue — We have had the most severe warm weather for ten days past almost ever known, but the [season] has been convenient — I flatter myself you dear [undecipherable] fellow is better after his voyage to New Port — my love to M^rs Knox & your family — with best [undecipherable] in the World — your Affectionate [undecipherable]
