Boston 28th July 1789
Dear Gen.l
I am called upon on [undecipherable] by my worthy friend & nephew Maj.r [undecipherable] to enclose a letter to the President requesting an appointment in the [undecipherable] District [Marblehead]— he has been informed that Marblehead will be a district & the principal town in a district, but is uncertain of the grounds of his Report— I know him to be an honest worthy fellow, & I would not wish you to affect him — you will be kind enough to seal & deliver his letter— I presume y.e President will remember the little Major, & every one who [undecipherable] him love him some degree of affection— I ask you pardon for [strikethrough: undecipherable] troubling you with so long a letter, since I find it so [undecipherable] for you to excuse the [undecipherable] of my last— God be praised you little fellow is better— remember us affectionately to M.rs & Miss Knox, & the young Battista—
yours most sincerely
[undecipherable]
