Dear Sir & Biddle Philadelphia July 22. 1789
I received your obliging favour of [the 5th] inst: and am happy to hear that your Child is out of danger —
As the Appointments under the Judiciary Bill will probably now soon come forwards, I must again be troublesome to you on that Subject — I wrote to the President some time ago / about three weeks / stating my Pretensions to the Appointment marshal of the federal Court for the District of Penn:sylvania but I have received no answer from him to my Letter which I suppose is the Case with others making such Applications, but from his constantly employing me in his private Affairs here & other marks of his Approbation I have no reason to doubt of his friendly Attention to my Claims, but if you find a suitable Opportunity and it meets your Approbation, I wish you would mention me to the President, and suggest that he may be satisfied of the Settlement of my Accounts at Mr. Burralls Office and that I have been always ready to execute any business in the public Line when called on — but you know best what to say & do & I have such Confidence in your friendship that I shall say no more, but that Mrs. Biddle joins me in Compliments to Mrs. Knox.
I am with great respect & Esteem Dr General
Your mo: obedt
& very humble Serv
Clement Biddle
