New York 7th September 1789
Dear Sir
I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your favor, in which you mention the purport of a letter written by you to the President of the United States respecting the honorable Judge McKean and Colonel John Parks.
I am persuaded the President has a full knowledge of the characters of these gentlemen, and that he will in all his nominations evince the most perfect impartiality, and regard to merit.
I dare not flatter myself that my opinion would be of any importance in this case, but if it should be otherwise, I should be happy in the opportunity of giving it in concurrence with your recommendation.
I am Sir
with great respect
Your most obedient humble
Servant
Knox
Colonel Thomas Rodney.
