Kent County, Delaware State, Sir, D^r freeman April 30^th 1789 The honor I have had in serving under your immediate command, in the late war, has embolden'd me to trouble you with this. I am in a disagreeable situation, and have no prospect of being in a better, which is the only apology I can make for this request. Should there be any Vacancy for a Clerk in the War Office, & you suppose me capable of supplying it, shall think it a great favor in being appointed to it, if there is none, & you have any other appointment to which you think me adequate, at your disposal, & will confer it upon me, I shall think myself under the highest obligations.
