Your favor of the 5th Inst came
to hand by the post last Even'g with one
memo from Mr Swan ——
M. S. Bourne arrived here last
Thursday Even'g in fifty hours from New
York with dispatches to John Adams Esq.
from the Federal Government — this
circumstance has revived the hearts
& spirits of all true Federalists, who have
been a long time anxiously waiting for the
event — Mr Adams sets off from his
seat at Braintree tomorrow morn'g at 10 oClock
[undecipherable: to be] received by the Ancient [undecipherable: Corps of] Horse to
his Excellency Governor Hancock, when
he is expected to arrive at 12 oClock — Capt
Johnstons Corps of Artilley will be [undecipherable: posted]
on the Common and Salute the Vice
President on his arrival & departure —
— his Excellency the Govr has prepared
a Cold Collation & invited the [undecipherable: Gentlemen]
of the Town to partake of it, & to take
Leave of Mr Adams — a number [undecipherable]
will accompany him in their Carriages
his first Stage — the [undecipherable: Gentlemen] of M[iddlesex]
from Middlesex will receive him on the
line of that County & [undecipherable: escort] to the
place he puts up for the night —
the Artillery at Charlestown are to
parade & Salute as he passes thro' the
Town — the Bells in the several Towns
thro' which he will pass, will [undecipherable: set a]
ringing, & the [undecipherable: Gentlemen] will turn out
& Conduct him from Town to Town, [undecipherable]
besides the Military — indeed there
will be one grand [underline: Huzza] thro'
the State ——
The friends of our friend Gen.
Lincoln have been out generally in
the late Elections — as it is very certain
that Mr Hancock is Elected Governor
& Mr S. Adams Lt Governor — Gen.
[undecipherable: Heath] & Benj. Austin [undecipherable] are chosen
Senators for this County, this is much
against the wish of the Federalists —
Gen. [undecipherable] will not be chosen a
Senator as I inform'd in my last —
by the Returns from the Western
County there is no choice of a Federal
Rep. — altho it is said if all the
votes had been [undecipherable] Mr Sedgwick would
have been elected by a large majority.
I will see the Winslows tomorrow
on the subject of the [undecipherable] on the Eastern
Lands —— your friends are all well
& desire to be remembered to you & Mrs
Knox —— after the receipt of this
you will not write me, as we propose
[undecipherable: setting] out for New York, next Wednesday
Week, that is, the 22 Ins — you may
therefore expect to see us by the last
of the month — you may send it if
you please — [undecipherable: I] shall certainly be
with [undecipherable: us] or near that time ——
my love to your family
& believe [undecipherable: me] your affectionate —
H Jackson
