[from the Maj. General Knox Secretary of Wars] Philadelphia April 1. 1789 Dear Sir The inclosed Letters from Gen[era]l Gates & M[r]. Balmain, requesting you to deliver me their Warrants [for their] Donation Lands, I received but Yesterday which puts out of my power to make a personal Application to you on this Subject; I have requested Col[onel] Platt to call on you & receive those Warrants I also to take my own, which I desire you to deliver to him — I intended to have conversed with you on the Subject of furnishing the Means of Safe Conduct for the Judges to form [their journey through] the Illinois Country on their official Business into that part of the Territory but forgot it — I beg you [will] give Order to Gen[era]l Harmer on the Subject, and also to the other parts of the Territory if it becomes necessary to visit those Regions. The Distances to the different parts of the Territory where our Duty may call Us & the Danger attending the [passing] will render it impossible for Us to execute the Duty expected without the Aid to be derived from your Department I am with great Esteem [signature undecipherable] [Docket: Philadelphia April 1^st 1789 Major Gen[era]l Sam[uel] H.
